Paper Art by Yulia Brodskaya

My favorite thing to do on a Sunday morning is curl up with a fresh cup of coffee and the Sunday Globe. I hurriedly flip through the sections, looking for the one I always read first - the Boston Globe Magazine! (I'm kind of a crossword fiend, and I love the Food section.)

This past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cover illustration by Yulia Brodskaya. Her distinctive style is immediately recognizable, as her lovely works have been traveling around the blogosphere for months now.

Her current style relies heavily on quilling, the art of rolling paper strips into shapes that was popular during the Renaissance and later Colonial times. She modernizes the craft, however, by using it to create clean-lined, hollow letters and flowing flourishes. Yulia has recently created pieces for everyone from Wired Magazine to Starbucks to Cadbury!

See more of Yulia's work here, and the Boston Globe Magazine here! (Above photos of the cover taken by me.)

Not Your Ordinary Paper Art

Helen Musselwhite constructs these beautiful illustrations out of paper. She carefully cuts out different shapes and elements, and then folds and layers them to create 3D images. She must have really steady hands! Here are three of my favorite pieces she's crafted.

Giggin' It Old School

These unique gig posters are from Garrett Karol. They have a great vintage look and feel! I love that each print is full of detail, but does not seem cluttered or overcrowded.

Just My Type

One of my favorite illustrations by Esther Arts. I love the curves and the colors.
This has a vintage look and feel, and it reminds me of Eastern European folktales as well. I love the crosshatching on the saddle and the lines on the hooves.

Illustrations

I love looking through portfolios of other illustrators. Every artist has such a distinct style, and so many creative ideas. It's easy to get inspired just by looking at beautiful visual work!
I came across Keetra Dean Dixon's work a few days ago. Her invitations are playful and so creative, with a great modern aesthetic and clever typography.

See more of her amazing work here!
