Life Lately

Lately, well, I've been a bit disappointed by people. I don't understand why people don't do the right thing even when no one is watching, you know? So when I came across this mug by Afternoon Coffee, it made me smile and gave me motivation to try to forget those who don't have my best interests at heart and to move on to happier thoughts. That's what books and movies are for, right? To escape into other worlds and forget our current cares and worries.

Afternoon Coffee is currently out of these mugs, but she's going to restock them in September. I'll know I'll be checking back so I can get my hands on one in time for warm cider and hot chocolate in the fall!

On a related note, I know I haven't been posting much this summer. I've been trying to stock my store with a ton of new prints well before the holidays come, so that's been causing the delay. I should be back to posting more in September. In the meantime, you can see what I've been up to in my HeritageCurrentCo. store if you like!

Illustrations by Lucy Eldridge

I stumbled across these Lucy Eldridge illustrations this weekend, and immediately loved her use of watercolors and fun themes. This "Biscuit Chart" reminds me of my year in London. If only you could easily get custard creams and malted milk cookies in the U.S.!

This one is called "Mythical Creatures". I think that's a Hippogriff from Harry Potter in the top left, followed by a flying horse and a minotaur. You obviously have to end such a list with a zebra that drinks milkshakes!

Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows II

In honor of the last Harry Potter movie coming out on Friday here in the US, I thought I'd share these great posters from Caroline Hadilaksono with you!

From top to bottom, she's colorfully and whimsically illustrated scenes from the Hogwarts Express, the Quidditch World Cup, and Hogwarts Castle as night.

Are you going to see Deathly Hallows II this weekend, or do you wait until the crowds calm down and go another day instead? (I tend to do the latter...)

This "Fortune Favors the Brave" print by Lilco Letterpress on Poppytalk combines a wonderful, inspirational quote with fun and playful design in the form of a banner.




Tinctory creates smocked silk necklaces in beautiful, hand-dyed shades. They remind me of old-fashioned millinery and feathers.

Ever wondered where the classrooms, halls, and other places seen in Harry Potter are actually filmed? This USA Today article reveals 10 real-life locations. I think the one for Hagrid's Hut surprised me the most. (It's very far away from London...and has quite a dark past!)



The New York Times has compiled a handy travel gift guide - I had no idea there were so many products for every travel need. Of course, if you have a friend who keeps dropping their cellphone or music player in various liquids, then #5 above would be perfect for them as well!

Keep Calm and Think Like Harry

Just wanted to post a low-res version of one of my new prints! It parodies two great British institutions - the "Keep Calm and Carry On" print, and the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling!

In times of trouble, Harry always remains calm and finds a way to save the day. So, it seemed like a natural fit to make a "Keep Calm" print about his bravery and wisdom. He always knows just what to do - an admirable trait, and one to aspire to.

The quote is accented with a zigzag, resembling Harry's famous scar. Right now I just have a red version up, but I'm planning on adding more colors soon. And another Harry parody!
