More Nautical Knot DIY Projects

It may be August already, but there's plenty of summer left before autumn arrives! I've been seeing really creative nautical knot-themed jewelry and accessories everywhere, and you still have lots of time to make and wear them to a beach, cabin, or lake house before it's time to pull out long-sleeved shirts and sweaters. To go along with my DIY Monkey's Fist Knot Nautical Necklace post from a few weeks ago, here are two more nautical knot-themed DIYs from my Pinterest page for you.

This first one shows a really easy nautical knot bracelet. You can make it monochrome, or use two colors for contrast and interest.

This last one is for a simple but lovely nautical knot headband. I really like the adjustable system they use - it's clever and easy!

Spring Celebrations - DIY Ideas

Sunny days and warmer nights mean it's spring party season! I've collected a few of my current favorite DIY party ideas for easy, brightly colored birthday parties, showers, or get-togethers.

First up are these fringed paper garlands from Mint Love Social Club. They couldn't be simpler! You just cut several layers of a triangle pattern from tissue paper, cut them so they're fringed, then seal the layers together at the top with a seam of metallic tape, binding, or ribbon (if using ribbon or binding, glue in place instead).

These little "oranges" from The Cinderella Project are just scoops of sorbet (store-bought is fine, but you could also make your own) with a clove and two edible leaves poked into the top so they look like citrus fruits. For the leaves, something like mint or lemon balm would work well and complement the flavor of the sorbet.

This larger-than-life crepe paper rose reminds me of Alice in Wonderland! It's from Green Wedding Shoes, via Mon Carnet. I think a few of these would look lovely hung over a table of treats, or strewn across a gifts table. You could also arrange several on a mantle for a lush botanic look.

Let's face it, seating can be one of the hardest things to arrange for a party. Keeping enough chairs around the house for all potential guests without cluttering your space is difficult, renting chairs gets expensive, and using regular inexpensive folding chairs can be, well, ugly. Luckily, The Moon and Me has a really helpful and easy tutorial on how to repaint folding chairs and turn them into these lovely, candy-colored versions instead!

Vintage lockets from Bhldn, Anthropologie's sister site for wedding dresses and jewelry. You can also find lovely, well-priced old lockets on Ebay.

How to make your own wax seal from a button, by Offbeat Bride. Seals don't have to be solely for fancy wedding invitations, you could easily use this trick for valentines or just regular letters as well for an extra personal touch.

I've always been mesmerized by the colorful domes of St. Basil's in Moscow. Luckily, Paper Matrix has created a free pattern so you can weave your own "onion" domes out of paper. These could be really amazing cake toppers, don't you think? Silver and gold paper would turn them into very elegant accents for a wedding or winter wonderland-type cake.

From I Spy DIY, a really cute and easy way to jazz up a plain sweater. This would be great for kids, but could work for brave adults as well (I'm not sure I would have the stones to rock that many pom poms).

First of all, let's talk about this amazing shade of ginger. I'm so jealous. While also a fellow redhead, only my highlights get THAT light. The rest of the time, I'm very auburn or a dark red/chestnut mix. However, my favorite part is Sara Lynn Paige's easy Short Gibson tuck. I'm not one of those people who really "does" my hair (I never know what to do, you know?) and even *I* can master this. It's easy and looks great whether in a casual or formal setting. Two thumbs up.

I didn't watch the Golden Globes, but I *did* catch up on all the dresses afterwards. Lady Mary is look very modern and elegant here. I love the gold part at the top, the high neck, and the sleeves. Here's hoping someone makes a knock-off version for not-filthy-rich folks like me asap! (Photo from The Daily Mail in London.)
